Got Potter?

Posted by Leslie on July 31st, 2007 | No Comments

Well, despite ordering the book months in advance to be sure it arrived on release date (it did), I didn’t get started reading it until yesterday. That stupid real life (you know, job, family, out of town guests, etc.) got in my way. But I’m now about 1/4 of the way through. My sister and nephew who have read it are ITCHING to talk about it so I need to hurry up and finish. And since I have my DVD copy of 300 now (w00t w00t!), I have to finish Potter so I can spend the rest of my free time drooling over Gerry’s nearly naked body! LOL!

to Jordanna Kay to watch the trailer for SHATTERED and tell me that doesn’t look like a nail-biting thriller!! Why do they think it will fail????

Watch it!

Okay, so I’m going on and on about Gerry’s new movie, SHATTERED! But, it looks really good and I just so don’t get why they won’t release it nationwide! Here, take a look for yourself!

I’ve been quoted!

Wuthering HeightsGosh, the littlest things excite me! Bronte Blog quoted a part of the interview from American Chronicle where I mentioned how much of an influence “Wuthering Heights” had on me. And it was the absolute truth. No other books has affected me more. Something about that tortured Heathcliff and his forlorn love for Catherine….Sigh. Hmmm, kinda makes me think of…well, The Phantom of the Opera! ;-) See, there’s always a Gerry connection somewhere!

Cool Interview!

Thanks, T!!!!!

(Im)patience

They say Patience is a Virtue. Unfortunately, I was not born with it. And in this writing business, it’s all about being patient. Basically, except for the actual writing, most of the rest is out of the author’s control. So we wait.

The editor at The Wild Rose Press asked for 60 days from the date she received SI/ATH to read and review it. A fair and generous offer, actually. Yet, here I am on day 30 anxious to hear from her. Sigh.

My agent told me she’d send MARK OF THE MONSTER off to NAL after the conference. I’m sure she’s still getting caught up and back into the groove.

So I’m waiting. And trying (really, really hard) to be patient! ;-)

Don’t forget to sign the petition to have SHATTERED released nationwide!

Rats and Cats

playing together? Yup. It’s part of a police program in Colombia to train rats to sniff out bombs. The rats are much lighter than dogs and have a 96% success rate. The problem came in that the rats were afraid of predators and would go into hiding. So now the rats are being trained to play with cats to help them over their fears. Pretty cool idea, huh?

Try, Try Again

This is a wonderful essay written by Jodi Picoult on what it took her to get published and be considered a success. Like Stephen King and J.K. Rowling (and many others), very few authors are “overnight sucesses.”

For some reason, reporters often call me an overnight success. But if that’s true, it’s been a 15-year-long night. My career, like those of most writers, has been one of slow, incremental growth, a mixture of both successes and failures. And here’s the thing that’s really remarkable: The failures you face as a writer are more important, because they’re what make you work harder, do better and build up the rhinoceros-hide-thick skin you need to survive in the publishing world.

More on the Toads

I know, you were biting your nails with anticipation! Several more babies have shown up over the last few days. I think our count is seven or eight. However, we found one already out of the pond and hopping around, so who knows how many others got out. I’m still in disbelief that out of HUNDREDS of eggs and tadpoles, we ended up with only a handfull of toads. There are no fish in the pond. Are birds swooping down and grabbing them? No clue!

Anyway, I think next time, something like this would be much easier! LOL!
