Free Promo

I guess you can call me the Free Promo Ho. I mean, what does it hurt, really? I’ve got a mySpace page, a Bebo account, a Shelfari account, and now one at Facebook. Not sure if any of those have driven you (the readers) here, but they didn’t cost me anything to set up, so why not do it? Any other places I should investigate?

Post Secret

Posted by Leslie on August 12th, 2007 | No Comments

If you have never visited this blog/website, you absolutely should. It can make you laugh, weep, and howl in anger. It is amazing and heart-wrenching. The premise is simple. If you have a secret to share, put it on a postcard and mail it in. It then might be chosen to appear on the blog. The starter of this website, the man who compiles these postcards, lives about fifteen minutes from me – although I’ve never met him. I’ve purchased one of his books and my daughter really wants to read the others. I promise you, you can’t NOT be moved by this website. By the way, he updates the site every Sunday. Here’s a short video he did about the project and blog:

Guess what? It feels good!

CoupleAccording to this study, men and women are fairly equal on the reasons they have sex. Attraction and they wanted to feel something good. Simple as that.

Expressing love and showing affection were in the top 10 for both men and women, but they did take a back seat to the clear No. 1: “I was attracted to the person.”…Twenty of the top 25 reasons given for having sex were the same for men and women.

The full list had 237 reasons why people have sex. From pleasing partners to wanting to share sexually transmitted diseases (!).

Elsewhere, a study has shown that a tiny organ in the nose is responsible for sexual behavior in mice. By mutating female mice to block that organ, the females acted like sex-hungry males, even abandoning their babies for more pleasure! Although humans lack this organ, it could lead to other studies showing that sexual desire is something that is more than just in the gender differences of the brain.

over at Lyn Cash’s blog. I gave away a copy of TABOO for the participants of her erotica-writing class. After all, I do write a bit of erotica now and then! ;-)

Five Copies!

Posted by Leslie on August 9th, 2007 | No Comments

I was at my local Borders yesterday. Took the teenager to get some books to read on vacation and two she had to read for school starting in a few weeks. As is my usual tendency, I wandered over to the Romance section. There sat five copies of THE PRICE OF DISCOVERY! I asked if I could sign. Two of them were signed from the last time I was there (which means they didn’t sell), but I signed the other three. And this time they put “local author” and “signed by author” stickers on the front. They also told me they would face them front on the shelf so that the stickers would be visible. I left before checking to see if they actually did face them front. Either way, it’s still cool to see them there. But it would be even COOLER if someone bought them! LOL!

Good News Abounds

No, not for me. Nothing new to report regarding myself other than what I mentioned a few days ago. However, several 2006 Golden Heart finalists have sold – Jeanne Pickering Adams and Trish Milburn. CONGRATS ladies!!

Also, Jennifer St. Giles, who was pictured with me at my Vegas signing, has hit the USA Today Bestseller list for her book, THE LURE OF THE WOLF. Way to go, Jenni!!!

Cross your fingers!

My agent sent MARK OF THE MONSTER out to NAL (New American Library), a publisher who was interested in the story before. The editor who read it suggested some changes and wanted to see it again. I made said changes and now it’s been sent back. If she’s ends up not being interested, it’ll go to a whole list of publishers. So cross those fingers, toes, and anything else you got for good luck. And here’s a short excerpt of MONSTER to let you know what she’s reading:

The woman leaned across the counter. “You heard the rumors about that house? They’re true, I tell you. Something isn’t right up there. Not right at all.”

A chill skated down Vivian’s spine at the memory of the attack in the dark halls. There was something going on in that house, but whether monster, ghost, or foul-play, it would not sway Vivian from her purpose.

“As you can see, I am in fine spirits and excellent health.”

The postmistress raised an eyebrow. “That may be, but how is your mind? Have odd dreams haunted you at night? Have the drafts and noises stirred you from slumber?”

Vivian sighed. Perhaps next time a servant should mail her letters. “My mind is still alert and sound.”

“And the master? Lord Ashworth? He’s not frightened you with his behavior or terrifying face?”

Terrifying face? Vivian could only think of the roughness of his chin, the sensual curve of his lips, the intensity of his eyes. His scar was a groove upon a spectacular stone, not diminishing its luster but adding to its uniqueness.

“I am perfectly well. Thank you for your concern. Now, a stamp, please.”

“Eh, you’ve only been there a short time.” She reached into a drawer and withdraw the same small stamp Vivian had seen on Lady Wainscott’s letter. “You’ll regret staying in that house, mark my words.”

Vivian slid the coin toward her. “I see no reason why I shall.”

Once the stamp was on the letter, the postmistress glanced at it then slid it into one of the lower slots. Still facing the wall of compartments, the woman glanced over her shoulder. “Keep a sharp eye out, Miss Suttley. You may think we only speak of rumors, but even gossip usually begins with a bit of truth.”

8 Million Year Old Trees

Posted by Leslie on August 6th, 2007 | No Comments

have been uncovered in Hungary. WOW! Can you imagine seeing and touching something that ancient? Here’s how they were found:

Archaelogists announced the find last week after uncovering the mysterious forest of taxodiums, a kind of swamp cypress, after a few days of digging.

Miners working in a brown coal mine had first uncovered several tree trunks that had been turned into coal, a common occurrence in this kind of environment.

“But further down, we found 16 trees that had remained where they had grown some eight million years ago and that are very well preserved.”

The trees were already 300-400 years old when they died and still feel like wood when touched. Amazing!

Been busy…

Sorry for the lagtime in posting. Got my parents in town staying with me and just HAD TO finish the final Harry Potter! Whew! Got it done, so now things should be a wee bit back to normal. I’ll find something interesting to say this week, I promise! ;-)
