How many have you read?

Posted by Leslie on November 21st, 2007 | 2 Comments

All About Romance has a list of Top 100 Romances. I believe this list was garnered by a poll on their website. Worth Any PriceI actually found out about this list via the Book Bitches, who had quote the humorous take on the books chosen.

As for how many I’ve read, I’m not sure if I should be relieved or embarrassed. I’ve read less than ten on there. There are many on there that I *intended* to read, but just never got around to. According to the Book Bitches, however, its probably a good thing that I’ve not wasted my time (see my comments and their reply to them). ;-)

You can read me on Kindle

Posted by Leslie on November 19th, 2007 | No Comments

Have you seen the latest in ebook technology? It’s the Kindle by Amazon. It’s got a pretty big pricetag as compared to other eReaders. Kindle imageYahoo has a good description and review of it, even saying:

…the Kindle is designed to be usable sans computer. It connects directly to a special Sprint-powered cellular network called Whispernet (not Wi-Fi) and lets you download directly from the web. However, there are no additional monthly service fees for the privilege.

The big question with these devices is always the screen. Kindle uses the same display technology that the similar Sony Reader uses, called E-Ink. The screen looks as much like paper as electronic displays get; it also allows for exceptional battery life since, once a page is generated, it requires no additional power to keep it displayed.

What I’ve got to say is that ebooks have been around for about ten years. And it’s just amazing how suddenly the paper-published authors are all excited by this “new” technology for their books. It ain’t all that new. It’s just something that is becoming accepted by the more mainstream.

By the way, ALL of my works are available electronically. ;-)

Happy Monday!

cat and mouse

Nothing much to post today. I’m busy at the day job. I did receive a promotion at work, something I’ve been working towards since February. Suffice to say, it means I’ve got more to do but am finally getting the pay and level I deserve. So yay me!

No news on the writing front. Still waiting to hear from two editors on A TARNISHED HEART and three editors on MARK OF THE MONSTER. But, with Lisa’s help, I’ve gotten more meat for my new historical/paranormal/gothic romance. :-)

I’d love to hear if you like any of these songs or if there are certain songs that make you think of Gerry or another hottie!

The Female Shape – Part II

Posted by Leslie on November 14th, 2007 | No Comments

Okay, so I usually hate my big hips. They make buying pants difficult and everyone is always telling me it’s the hardest place to lose weight. But now I think I’ll start to be appreciative. Apparently, they’re helping to make my kids smart! Basically the reasoning behind this is:

CURVIER women may have smart children because hip fat contains polyunsaturated fatty acids critical for the development of the fetus’s brain.

So there you have it…those curves might prevent me from sitting comfortably on a swing or wearing the lastest fashions, but I’m *certain* my kids are geniuses!

Gothic-ly Delicious

I’ve started a new historical gothic. While not main characters, the demons of Incubus and Succubus play a role in the story. While searching for images of these demons, I stumbled across the “Gothic Nightmares” exhibit at the Tate Museum in Britain. Each room holds different pictures in such categories as “Fairies and Fatal Women” and “Perverse Classicism.”

Borrowed from that site is first image, which I found in the “The Nightmare” room. This is what they had to say about the work:

An evil imp has visited two naked young women, and is shown departing on a demonic horse through the window. One of the women stretches as she wakes, her face indicating she has been troubled (or perhaps exhausted) by the night’s activities. The composition may suggest a kind of addled fairy-tale, with the sleeping beauties awakened by the departure of the beast. It evokes the themes of erotic arousal and sexual initiation that underlie many classic stories.
