thursday thirteen
Thirteen New Year’s Resolutions (which I’ll never keep)!

1. I’ll exercise regularly. (uh, maybe there’s a chance)
2. I’ll eat more fruits and vegetables. (can’t get any lower)
3. I’ll cut back on candy, cookies, cake, all evil snacks. (three times a day should be do-able)
4. I’ll waste less time surfing the internet. (define “waste”)
5. I’ll keep in better contact with long-distance friends. (does forwarding jokes count?)
6. I’ll call my parents more often. (maybe email would be easier)
7. I’ll prepare healthier meals for my family. (this would mean I’d have to start cooking)
8. I’ll spend less money. (a girl needs new shoes every now and then)
9. I’ll set up a regular writing schedule and stick to it. (anything is better than “when the mood strikes”)
10. I’ll meditate/pray/think more. (hey, I help the kids with religious school and Hebrew homework)
11. I’ll work on making decisions more definitively. (not sure I can do this)
12. I’ll be more focused while at work. (who me? I don’t have a focus problem…nope)
13. I’ll get more organized. (what if I hire a 12-step program for this?)

Frisky Friday!

I’m in a frisky mood, but it’s not about my crush on Gerry, its about being a Jew during the Christmas season. I thought a few videos might show more of what I’m feeling!

Thirteen things I learned after having kids!

1. Glitter was quite possibly created by the Devil.
2. It is possible for a child to tumble down a flight of steps and not hurt a single part of their body.
3. A teenager can say I love you and I hate you within a minute of each other and mean both.
4. A child can live on pizza and potato chips for a week.
5. Backpacks last only two months before ripping apart.
6. Pokemon cards multiply when no one is looking.
7. Money talks at any age.
8. Any lunchboxes left at school for more than a month should NOT be opened when returned home.
9. Graham crackers can be dipped in water and still eaten.
10. Nickelodeon shows are genius or idiotic or both.
11. Extra cash may be demanded if the toothfairy forgets to show.
12. Sand can take days and days to come out of hair.
13. Ketchup is a vegetable if you want it to be badly enough.

If this is what it takes…

to get you to buy a story or two, then I’ll just have to do it! ;-) Following is an excerpt from The Lady’s Bargain. Please read, enjoy, then spend $3.50 and buy it! My royalty check for the last quarter was less than $4. Come on, I gotta feed my kids! LOL!

“Quite lovely. It is a waste that you’ve let no man near you.”

She straightened her spine. “I am not a virgin.”

He chuckled. “I didn’t think you were. But how long as it been?”

She sighed. “Eight years.”

“Ahh, yes, such a waste.” His breath blew across her hair, sent shivers down her back.

“When can I open my eyes?” She could see flickering of light from the fireplace but nothing else. It made her uneasy, it made her vulnerable.

“Not yet.”

Suddenly, his hands cupped her breasts. She gasped. He was behind her, pressing himself against her skin. His arousal, still encased behind his trousers, dug mercilessly into the base of her spine. She leaned her head back onto his shoulder.

William let go and she nearly stumbled.

“Keep your eyes closed, your hands to yourself. No touching me until I allow it.”

This was too much. She swung around, sharpening her gaze on him. “Enough. I’m not a toy for you to play with.”

“I do not consider you a toy.” His gray eyes narrowed. “But neither will I be used by you. As I said before, you either give yourself over to me or there is no need to continue.”

She crossed her arms. “You want me to beg.”

“I want you to trust. Shall we continue?”

Christine ground her teeth. She was aroused and desperate. Yet tentative. She’d not given up control in eight years. She’d not let another invade her soul. But it was just for one night. She could do this for one night. Couldn’t she?

More on the Science Debate

Posted by Leslie on December 14th, 2007 | No Comments

I found this page via his link to my previous post…but I really like the way he sums up what the Science Debate is really about and why it’s needed.

What we primarily want is to gauge their relationship with reality - will they govern using the best available information about the way the world really works, or will they govern by gut-sense and spiritual inspiration, or will they govern by immediate economic considerations only?

He finds there are three major themes candidates should focus on. This year I’ll be paying much closer attention to the various presidential debates and listening for their stands on the following. What about you? Do you have any opinions on this debate regarding science?

Funding - what are the priorities, how much money is dedicated to research, who pays, who receives, who decides? Basic vs. applied science; science vs. technology.

Information - freedom of information, copyright, open source, open access, who owns and controls the information? How do they define “sound science”? What is the role of universities? What is taught in public schools?

Authority - what is scientific authority, who has it, who decides? How does governing rely on scientific authority? What considerations can be allowed to dilute the policy based on empirical information about the way the world works? Role of the WH science advisor, congressional Office of Technology Assessment, National Academy of Science?

Gerry is so cute when he’s being frisky. Yes, he did this on purpose. I mean, check out the second picture! LOL! By the way, that’s an award he won from MTV.

Given my love of science

Posted by Leslie on December 13th, 2007 | No Comments

it’s only natural I jump on the Science Debate 2008 bandwagon. Their objective states the purpose well:

Given the many urgent scientific and technological challenges facing America and the rest of the world, the increasing need for accurate scientific information in political decision making, and the vital role scientific innovation plays in spurring economic growth and competitiveness, we call for a public debate in which the U.S. presidential candidates share their views on the issues of The Environment, Health and Medicine, and Science and Technology Policy.

I have a huge interest in the environment, which I’ve passed on to my children. And, as you’ve seen from the posts on this blog, my fascination with science is never-ending. I’m hopeful for some major changes regarding these issues in the next few years and the candidates need to declare their stance on them!
