I was thinking of all the things I used to do as a kid that either I probably wouldn’t let my kids do these days or they would complain if they had to do it.

Thirteen “Crazy” Things I Did as a Kid
1. I walked just slightly under one mile to school. Often alone.
2. I walked to my best friend’s house, who lived three blocks away and up a big hill.
3. I walked to the neighborhood pool, a good mile or so away. Sometimes alone.
4. My brother and I walked to drugstore to buy a grilled cheese and some candy bars. It was past the school, close to two miles, I’m sure.
5. I played tag outside in the dark during the summer, running through neighbors yards.
6. I had sleepovers in basements, not up in the bedrooms.
7. I played marbles on the sewer grates. Yes, marbles.
8. I played Atari, and loved Pong. Then I played outside.
9. A friend and I would wander back in the woods, far enough that I don’t know how we found our way home.
10. I climbed trees, sometimes all the way to the roof.
11. I played kickball with friends out in the street.
12. I often stayed at the pool from when it opened to when it closed or until my lips were blue.
13. I actually used the monkey bars and swingsets in my yard.
