Contest!

Posted by Leslie on April 27th, 2010 | 1 Comment

Just one week from today BEAUTY TEMPTS THE BEAST is officially released in print. To celebrate I’m holding a Twitter and Facebook contest to win a free copy!

Rules are easy!

For Twitter just tweet the following: “@LeslieDicken I want to read BEAUTY TEMPTS THE BEAST. #bttb” (be sure to include my name or the hashtag)

For Facebook, reply to this note with: “I want to read BEAUTY TEMPTS THE BEAST!”. (Or something similar)

Next week, I’ll choose a winner from Twitter and an winner from Facebook. Then I’ll mail you an autographed copy. Outside the US is fine.

I hope you’ll tell me WHY you want to read it, but it’s necessary for the contest.

Any comments on this blog post will get added to the site with the lesser amount of entries.

Good luck! :-)

One of the thrills of being an author

Posted by Leslie on April 19th, 2010 | 1 Comment

is getting a box of books with your name on them. :-) Samhain sends its authors a box of 10 author copies a few weeks prior to the release of the print version. There is NOTHING like holding your own book in your hand. Don’t get me wrong — I love ebooks for many reasons. But having a book in my hand still gives me a unique thrill.

Stay tuned…I’ll do a contest to give away one or two of these books in the next week or so (or sooner!).

Now THIS is Beauty! Yay!!!! on Twitpic

Change in plans

We were supposed to go boating on the Chesapeake Bay today but high winds caused a small craft advisory. So instead we went down to DC and walked around the American History Museum. After that it was straight to my son’s first soccer game (which they won).

I think after dinner — if I have any energy left — I’ll attempt to get some words written. I’m beat and I’m not even the one who ran up and down the field!

Mini-blurb for The Iron Heart

Being forced to write a synopsis for The Iron Heart, has also forced me to create a mini-blurb to describe the essence of the book. I’m sure it’ll be polished again and again, but here it is now:

In a steampunk world where the wealthy have personal flying machines and clockwork automatons are on the verge of creation, a killer stalks the dark alleyways of the metropolis. Ellie Wilder won’t stop until the man who killed her cousin is captured. Bennett Pierce knows the killer intimately, but will he reveal his terrifying secret before Ellie becomes the latest victim?

Thoughts??

I haz a happy!

I have become a client of the Trident Media Agency, with Stephanie MacLean as my agent. Woot!

It’s actually an interesting story how it all came about, seeing as that I don’t have a current completed manuscript to pitch and hadn’t even thought of querying anyone.

I did learn a valuable lesson, however. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CONTACT INFORMATION ON YOUR WEBSITE. D’oh! At some point, I went through and cleaned up pages on this site and ended up deleting my “Contact Me” page. And so, when Stephanie wanted to contact me, she couldn’t find my email address anywhere on here (it’s currently on my footer). She ended up sending me something through Goodreads.

So there you have it. I have a book to finish (THE IRON HEART) and an agent who loves it and can’t wait to read more.

Woo Hoo!
