Kosher for Passover

Posted by Leslie on April 14th, 2008 | No Comments

In Tel Aviv, even the animals are going kosher for Passover. The staff is cleaning out all bread products, according to the custom of the holiday, and replacing it with unleavened bread. Apparently, the orangutans seem to enjoy the change and are munching down on matzo, as shown in this picture.

To ask Little Brownie Baker to stop using Palm Oil in their bakery products.

Recent discoveries have determined the orangutan species is rapidly declining. This is due to logging in places such as Indonesia and Malaysia. Rainforests are being destroyed and palm oil plantations are established in their place.

An organization under the website, themanoftheforest.com, states the following: “Presently in Borneo (Indonesia and Malaysia) and Sumatra the Orangutan population is down to around 69,000.This may initially sound like a fairly large number, but when you discover that we are currently losing 50 Orangutans a week and that at the present rate of killing there will be none left by 2026, you then realize why the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) have raised the alarm to an unprecedented level with a new report : “Last Stand of the Orangutan : A State of Emergency”.

Leap Day Explanation

Posted by Leslie on February 29th, 2008 | No Comments

Today is Leap Day - the extra day added to the calendar during leap years.

Here’s the quick explanation — Although the modern calendar counts a year as 365 days, a complete revolution around the sun takes approximately 365 days and 6 hours. Every four years, an extra twenty-four hours have accumulated, so one extra day is added to that calendar to keep the count coordinated with the sun’s apparent position.

Other interesting Leap Day information and traditions!

SO HAPPY LEAP DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
