Where I’ll be

Posted by Leslie on June 25th, 2008 | No Comments

This post is to let you know that I’m going away again. Yes, I was just gone a short time ago, but I actually don’t have control of these dates - only if I go or not!

But before we get to my next trip, I want to point out an excellent article in Publisher’s Weekly on The New E- in Erotica. One of my publishers, The Wild Rose Press (IMPROPER NIGHTS, THE LADY’S BARGAIN) is mentioned in this article. It looks as though erotica romances are here to stay!

As for my trip, I leave tomorrow for three days with my husband and nine-year-old twins on a 37 foot sailboat. sailboat It’s been my husband’s dream to have his own boat and so we decided to “test it out” by finding a time-share-like set-up. This way we aren’t obligated and stuck with a boat to sell if we decide we didn’t enjoy it or have the time for it.

We took lessons back in April (among rain and storms) but have yet to go overnight on the boat. We’ll have to bring our own sheets, pillows, towels, food, drink, etc. And all of our clothes, of course. We have stops planned which aren’t too far away and will decide at the time whether to dock at a marina or to anchor.

Husband and kids are very excited about this trip. Me? I’m a wee bit nervous to be honest. I’m relieved we aren’t going very far and that the sailboat does have a motor, if needed. Still, the last time hubby and I went out on our own, we had a very hard time docking with just the two of us. It’s a big boat for a skipper and ONE crewman to maneuver and tie up!

So, the blog will be quite over the next few days. And when I return on Saturday, I’ll no doubt be spending much of my time preparing for my birthday party on Sunday. ;-)

If this is what it takes…

to get you to buy a story or two, then I’ll just have to do it! ;-) Following is an excerpt from The Lady’s Bargain. Please read, enjoy, then spend $3.50 and buy it! My royalty check for the last quarter was less than $4. Come on, I gotta feed my kids! LOL!

“Quite lovely. It is a waste that you’ve let no man near you.”

She straightened her spine. “I am not a virgin.”

He chuckled. “I didn’t think you were. But how long as it been?”

She sighed. “Eight years.”

“Ahh, yes, such a waste.” His breath blew across her hair, sent shivers down her back.

“When can I open my eyes?” She could see flickering of light from the fireplace but nothing else. It made her uneasy, it made her vulnerable.

“Not yet.”

Suddenly, his hands cupped her breasts. She gasped. He was behind her, pressing himself against her skin. His arousal, still encased behind his trousers, dug mercilessly into the base of her spine. She leaned her head back onto his shoulder.

William let go and she nearly stumbled.

“Keep your eyes closed, your hands to yourself. No touching me until I allow it.”

This was too much. She swung around, sharpening her gaze on him. “Enough. I’m not a toy for you to play with.”

“I do not consider you a toy.” His gray eyes narrowed. “But neither will I be used by you. As I said before, you either give yourself over to me or there is no need to continue.”

She crossed her arms. “You want me to beg.”

“I want you to trust. Shall we continue?”

Christine ground her teeth. She was aroused and desperate. Yet tentative. She’d not given up control in eight years. She’d not let another invade her soul. But it was just for one night. She could do this for one night. Couldn’t she?

I typically don’t do the banner thing…just haven’t had the time, I guess. But when The Wild Rose Press asked for one from their Scarlet Rose authors, I figured it was time. After all, I have TWO releases for Scarlet Rose soon! Whaddya think?

Feels good!

I’m writing again. Can’t tell you what a wonderful feeling that is. While I did write those short erotica stories for my GB GALfriends, they weren’t the same as writing to get published. I’m not sure what’s been holding me back, but I felt like I was in a holding pattern. Publishers closing, editors leaving, agents busy — these are part of the publishing world, but for some reason they seemed to put a halt on my creativity.

So a few days ago I was instant messaging with a friend and I asked her for an idea for sexy short story. I want to submit to the Scarlet Rose line at The Wild Rose Press. Scarlet Rose Line The same place The Lady’s Bargain is for sale. My friend gave me an idea and I ran with it. I’m thrilled to say that in just a few days I have over twenty pages written and I’m more than half way finished. I can’t guarantee that The Wild Rose Press will buy the story, but I feel better knowing that Muse hasn’t left me for good! Wish me luck!

New Review!

Yay! I finally got another review for this sexy short story! Two Lips gave it 4/5 and had this to say:

The Lady’s Bargain by Leslie Dicken is a fun and romantic read with a little humor thrown in to balance it out. Ms. Dicken manages to pack a lot into so few pages but keeps the historical feel of the time alive and intact. A good, quick read when you want to treat yourself and don’t have “novel” time.

LADY gets *five* Angels!

Wow! Fallen Angel Reviews gave The Lady’s Bargain 5 Angels! Here’s what the reviewer has to say:

Mrs. Dicken has done an excellent job creating The Lady’s Bargain…This quick story is a pleasurable read and fans of historical romance should definitely give Mrs. Dicken a chance.

Coffee Time Romance had this to say about The Lady’s Bargain:

Ms. Dicken has written a very sweet love story. The attraction between Christine and William builds very quickly. When they come together, the union is explosive. This book shows that sometimes the ultimate bargain is made to save something we believe in. But in the end, both sides sometimes win when the bargain is sealed.
